Still we await the FL decision

I heard a little snippet on sky sports news last Thursday lunchtime, I am sure it was then, that said the football league would be meeting – again! – that day to discuss whatever it is they discuss when they hold their meetings and on the agenda was Portsmouth Football Club, and whether we will face a point deduction or not?

Yet, and perhaps I have missed something, more than a month after CSI went into admin and despite this being the second meeting, at least, that the football league has held since no decision has been made…

So, when exactly are the football league going to decide this?

Apparently, and this was something I picked up on a financial website, or something on t’internet: ‘whether the club will face a points deduction is uncertain.

‘The matter is so complicated that the Football League has asked a firm of accountants with experience of football to look at the situation. What is at issue is whether any club debt was transferred to CSI.

This surely is a matter that needs clarifying, well right away as it is not just PFC that this could impact on there are other clubs too.

Would be next owners must also want to know what is going to happen!

In an ideal world, from the football league’s point of view, whatever points penalty – if any – that they actually do place upon us will not impact on what league we play in but things would be thrown into chaos if they waited until the closing weeks of the season to announce their decision, especially if this meant missing out on an unlikely play-off place or worse still slipping into a relegation place and dropping into league one as a result.

Given that they failed to punish QPR severely enough last season to prevent them from going up you would ‘hope’ that whatever they did with us, if anything, would also not be severe enough to compromise our league status, whatever that might be come the end of May!

Even with a points penalty, in the region of 9pts, I think we would have enough about us to stay up but would sooner this theory was not put to the test…
