Pompey have been dealt the brilliant news that captain Sol Campbell has signed new and improved contract with Pompey.

A thrilled Campbell told the Pompey Site, ‘I’m delighted to have signed a new contract.

‘It’s dragged on a bit but everything’s been resolved. There’s always a bit of transfer speculation around the transfer window but thankfully it’s over now and I can concentrate on playing football.

‘The clubs moving forward with a talented squad and plans for the new training ground. The club is certainly going in the right direction’.

Campbell’s new contract will see him stay with Pompey until the end of the 2008/09 season at least.

So far this season has been a bit stop start for the England international, with two England recalls aborted due to injury setbacks, but it is hoped that the Pompey captain will be fit to return for the match with Liverpool on Saturday week.

This is tremendous news for Pompey and is a near perfect end to what has been a pretty good day for me personally, to say I am delighted is an understatement!
