Whether it be local or national Vital Pompey is well known for breaking stories before other news sites but on this occasion we are proud to say that we have wiped the floor with everybody.

At lunchtime today I emailed the Vital Pompey Editorial Team to tell them that I had had a tip-off from a 100% trusted reliable source that Shearer had done a deal with Newcastle.

Obviously there was a little cynism within the team, especially given the fact that it was fast approaching April 1st however I stuck by my guns and put my reputation firmly on the line.

When I returned home from work at six o’clock I posted this in the Vital Pompey forum

Another one of Chixy’s Hot Tips…

Alan Shearer has done a deal with the Newcastle board and will take control of the team for the remaining games of the season…

I heard this at One o’clock today …

To be announced either late tonight or early tomorrow morning..

Just remember where you heard it first ..

At 23:01 Sky News broke this ‘exclusive’

Alan Shearer is to take over as Newcastle United manager for the final eight games of the season as the club battle to avoid Premier League relegation

So there you have it Vital Pompey first off the blocks again
Is there really any other site you need to visit ?

On a separate note we have to consider what this will do to Newcastle’s chances of survival. Given their run-in I was hoping that they (or maybe Hull City) would be the ‘third team’ along with Boro and the Baggies to free-fall out of the Premiership and although it’s probably somewhat arrogant of me not to concede that we too are in as much danger of the drop I had almost pencilled them in – Now I’m not too sure.

We have seen ourselves what a change of manager can do to a clubs fortunes (from both sides of the coin) but can any Pompey, Stoke, Hull, Boro or Blackburn fans now not be a little worried – Shearer will surely bring impetus to the Geordies and it could spell trouble for one of us just above that dreaded zone.

Should we wish the bloke luck ? .. nah of course not and “I’d love it” if we turned them over up there in a few weeks time. Hopefully by then the New Messiah will have taken the same road as the old one, and let’s not forget both of them are famous for wearing stripes of another colour.
