The signing of Ricardo Rocha, on a short-term 6-month contract, was officially confirmed on The Pompey Site yesterday.

Rocha, who signed after having his contract with Standard Liege terminated by mutual consent, is happy to be back in the premier league: ‘it’s very good for me to be back.

‘It will be good to be able to show everybody what I can do, and I want to prove it to myself and to the people of Portsmouth.

‘But the most important thing is to help get Portsmouth away from the bottom.’

The 31-year-old will add experience at the back, and gives us another option – which cannot be a bad thing, can it?

Although the former Portuguese international knows that he is walking into a difficult situation, to say the least, he is very much looking to help us avoid relegation: ‘I know from our position in the league that we are struggling a little bit now, but I know that everybody is doing their best to get out of this situation and I’m here to help the team to achieve that goal.’

I cannot really say that I remember much of him from his time with Spurs back along, but he will do for me.

Another that will sign shortly, so long as he receives a work permit, is Serbian left back Dusko Tosic.

He told Kicker-Sportmagazin: ‘I have signed a deal for 18 months with Portsmouth FC, pending just the work permit.

‘But there is a 99 per cent chance I will get permission for this.’
