Redknapp to St James’? I think not

Apparently over the weekend there were ‘quiet whispering’ about Newcastle being interested in nabbing Harry Redknapp should the barcodes dispense of Fat Sam but Peter Storrie has acted swiftly to tell The News it is nothing more than speculation based on his success here and he will not be going anywhere: ‘when you are doing well your team gets linked with everyone.

‘Like all players, everybody talks about Benji, Muntari, Utaka, Distin and on and on and on. They are people who are doing very well for this football club and Harry’s the same.

‘What he has achieved here has obviously caught people’s eyes.

‘Everything is going very, very well and unfortunately he will get linked with other clubs.

‘But he’s not going anywhere.

‘Harry has just signed a new contract and is very happy here. If he wasn’t happy, surely he wouldn’t have even signed the contract?’

This must have been such a ‘quiet’ rumour as reading about it on the Pompey pages was the first I had heard about it!

What is the price you pay for being successful, as both players and managers? You will be linked with other clubs – but my thinking is this is nothing more than idle speculation that has little or no truth to it at all, something that was drummed up by the media due to a ‘quiet news day’ and the simple fact that he is doing well with Pompey.

Besides why would Redknapp want to leave Pompey for Newcastle? I have nothing against them, in fact I quite like them but they can offer nothing – apart from a bigger, and more modern stadium – that we cant, if anything it looks as though we are moving further forward than they are, which is a case that we can point to against many top flight teams now.

Yep Redknapp will get linked with other jobs the further he carries on taking us forward, the same will apply to our players the better they perform but I am convinced we will see Redknapp play out his managerial days with Pompey now – only the England job would tempt him and even that might not appeal to him that much…
