Seeing, or should I say hearing Harry Redknapp playing down a situation is not anything new to us is it, so his thoughts that Thiago Motta might not sign are nothing new…

The Spanish midfielder has been on trial with Pompey – with it thought that we want him to sign a deal but his wage demands could scupper this, along with our apparent desire to only offer him a short term contract?

Redknapp likes the former Barcelona star, but is concerned by his past injury problems and is not holding out much hope of doing a deal – telling The News: ‘Motta’s been training and I like him. Peter’s made him an offer.

‘I don’t know where he’s at with him, he deals with contracts. But I’m getting the feeling nothing’s going to happen. The lad’s had a bad knee injury.

‘If his knee’s okay he’ll be a good player and he’s looked good in training.

‘I saw him play at Chelsea in the Champions League for Barcelona a few years ago. They were fantastic that night and they beat Chelsea.

‘He played in the middle of the park. He’s a good player. I don’t think it will happen, though.’

Surely we would be able to have something written into a contract to protect us again injury returning? Although I do not think this is our main problem here, it seems to be the apparent wage demands of the Brazilian, which reports claim are £60,000 per week – which is something we would not pay.

We will soon find out what really will be the case here – this could be a typical HR bluff? If not so be it, that is the way it goes…
