Redknapp aiming very high!

Harry Redknapp has often ‘aired on the cautious approach’ with our chances for this season – but having already recently expressed the opinion that ‘Europe is the target this season’ he has now told the Pompey site that 4th spot, and a possible place in next season champions league is not out of reach: ‘at the start of the year I would have said it was completely unrealistic – I couldn’t see past the usual four being there again.

‘I looked at Liverpool’s squad when we played them in Hong Kong and I thought they would challenge. They’ve brought in some top players this year.

‘But for whatever reason they’re not up there. They’ve got no chance of winning it and they haven’t even pulled away from the rest.

‘If you’d have said to me at the start of the year that we’d be sitting not too far behind them at this stage, then I wouldn’t have believed you.

‘There are a lot of good sides around us like Villa, Everton and Blackburn fighting it out as well but we’re in the mix and we’ve got a chance. It’s a possibility and there’s everything to play for.

‘It gets a bit monotonous with the same four teams up there every year, so it would be nice if someone else could break in there – it needs to be done’.

Yep, for the good of the premier league something needs to change, so why not? It might not happen – but who is to say it will not, aim high I say, if we fall short then we ‘should’ still have a fantastic end to the season…

I know that Everton, Villa and Blackburn all feel that they are good enough to finish in 4th spot, so if they think that they can then why should we not feel the same? When all our players are back and fit I would say that we have a squad on a par – some might argue better – than these.

Of course Liverpool cannot be written off, as in theory they ‘should’ finish 4th, they really should be closer to the top of the table than they are, but again they have flattered to deceive so far… I have made not secret for most of the season of my thoughts that a new team will enter the top 4 at Liverpool’s expense; I am not changing this opinion now.

Spurs were the team I was thinking of in the summer, but this is not likely now is it, but again you can never say never. As much as Everton would ‘probably’ be my tip at this point in time why should we write ourselves of eh fellas?

What is obvious is that if we have any chance of making this happen we must no two ways about it beat Bolton tomorrow and then Sunderland the game after, which comes after our FA cup game next weekend.
