Read into this what you will?

The future of Glen Johnson became ‘unclear’, if that is the right choice of words, late Sunday night… But then early today ‘seemed’ to be very clear?

First of all he is quoted in The Mail as saying ‘there was only so much I could take at Chelsea’ and the club made him fall out of love with the game whereas ‘Portsmouth made me love the game again.’

Many people feel that far too many footballers these days are happy to pick up the money and if they are not always playing they can deal with that – Johnson certainly does not to seem to be one of those, he is one that loves what he does: ‘when I was at Chelsea, I used to tell my mates ‘I’m paid to play football, but football is what I’m doing the least’.

‘They knew my situation and were sympathetic. They are football fans but, at the same time, they are my mates and they felt for me. They were trying to keep my head up to get through it.’

The England man certainly has, and hopefully still does, appreciate what he has at Pompey and said as much: ‘there’s a saying that what hurts you only makes you stronger. It definitely made me appreciate playing at Portsmouth. It’s crazy really.

‘I was frustrated every day at Chelsea, but Portsmouth brought the love back.’

So, like I say ‘read into this what you will?’

For me this ‘seemed’ to rule out a return to Chelski? Why would such things be said about a club if you are just about to return to them…

However Johnson then went on to pay great tribute to his former West Ham and then of course Pompey manager Jamie’s Dad: ‘Harry Redknapp signed me and it helped to play week in, week out. That was one of the main reasons I signed for Portsmouth and it was just what I needed.

‘We had a great bunch of lads down there and that was really good for me as well.’

Again, ‘read into this what you will?’

This ‘might’ have then suggested that the next move he made, if he even did, would be a move to Spurs to re-unite with his old manager once again…

Of course a lot depends on when these ‘quotes’ were actually given?

They appear to be fresh but are they possibly older thoughts that have been dragged up again by The Mail with a possible Chelski return on the cards?

All in all this left me ‘slightly hopeful’ again that we would keep Johnson then The Mirror comes this morning and raises hope yet further!

Basically, they are suggesting that following previous thoughts – so they must be new? – he is ready to turn his back on Chelski and Liverpool and remain at Pompey as we rescued his club and international career: ‘there’s no decision to take as no one’s spoken to me.

‘I’m a Portsmouth player and will be. They gave me regular football and made me love the game again.’

‘There’s no decision to take,’ read into that part alone what you will but that sounds like a man committing his future to Pompey, as he had when he signed his new 4-year contract back in January…

Who knows what will happen, but these very latest thoughts seem highly positive and as The Mirror did put it make it seem like he ‘is ready to pledge his future to Portsmouth.’
