Re-hashed and re-used?

The News is this morning running a story that Pompey are ‘keen on the West Brom left-back’ Paul Robinson as we ‘begin the process of reshaping their squad for next season.’

We seem to be linked with the defender every summer, so for me I can only see this as being a ‘re-hashed’ and ‘re-used’ story with it an easy assumption to make based on this history now that he has ‘made it clear he wants away from the Hawthorns.’

Ok, The Herminator might be knocking on and be out of contract this summer – and nothing has been decided yet, as is Noe Pamarot – who is being ‘linked’ with a move away, and to be honest I would let him go! Add Armand Traore returning to Arsenal after his loan we ‘could’ be short of left back options, but, despite his ‘unorthodox’ style we do still have Nadir Belhadj.

Granted we possibly will need to look at a left back, but I would be happier to keep The Herminator although I do not think we should rule out a permanent return of Traore – the chances are he has now slipped behind Kieron Gibbs in the Arsenal thinking so I still maintain my thoughts that they would let him go. So, something along the lines of £5m would make a better investment, long-term as much as anything, than a £1.5m signing of the 30-year-old Robinson for me…

Even taking into account all of what I have said, which could well be totally disagreed with – which is fair enough, I think it is being forgotten that we do not actually have a manager in place yet do we, so who would be making these decisions? Who says that whoever we finally do appoint would even want him!

Not too much substance to this one for me, if Bolton want him – and I think they too have been ‘linked’ in the past as well, so another easy one – let them have him I say…
