Linvoy Primus has spoken to pfcTV again, with him targeting the league cup tie with Burnley next week as the match for his long awaited return from his knee injury, although he could be in the squad that goes to Blackburn this weekend.

He takes part in the reserve fixture with West Ham tonight, a match in which he is hoping to play the majority if not all of the match: ‘The aim is to play 90 minutes at Upton Park.

‘If I can successfully get through that then I have a good chance of being in the first team squad for the following games.

‘It would have been nice if the reserves had played last week because I might have had a chance then of being in the squad for Liverpool’.

He acknowledges that he faces a challenge to dislodge current central defensive pairing Sylvain Distin and Sol Campbell to get back in, with both being in such fantastic form this season with Harry Redknapp full of praise for this pairing at the weekend. Campbell’s injury worries are probably the most likely route of seeing him get back in at this time though.

Primus always faces a challenge to get back in the side, but always rises to it, but this season is going to be such a battle and I worry that Redknapp will not give him the chance to play, but as said if Distin and Campbell stay fit and keep playing like they are then they cannot be left out as both are international quality, with it very possible that Distin could earn himself a call up for France is he keeps playing like he is.

My thinking was that I wanted Primus back in for Hermann Hreidarsson, with Distin then shifting to left back, but even Hreidarsson appeared to up his game last weekend, so although I have not been convinced by him he has earned a stay of execution, although he is one of Redknapp’s favourites anyway isn’t he.

It is going to be a battle for Primus this season but he has been written off before and we all know what has happened time and time again.
