I think that we all spare thoughts from time to time for all the staff involved at Portsmouth Football Club, with the players most in the public eye, although it is those that are lesser known that have come in for some credit.
And rightly so!
David Lampitt has issued this statement of thanks via The Pompey Site…
Staff Thanked For Show Of Loyalty
Fans and players have rightly been lauded for their incredible spirit in the face of adversity.
But the same can also be said of the club’s staff, who, despite not being paid since December, pulled together to ensure Tuesday night’s game against Ipswich was played.
From full-time staff who have continued to fulfil their own and extra duties, to casual bar staff, doormen and, not least, stewards who ensure the safety of fans at Fratton Park, all committed themselves to a game which could not have been played without their collective effort.
There needs to be 180 stewards at each match for the game to go ahead. And on Tuesday all of them, many Pompey fans themselves, turned out during the club’s time of financial crisis, staying long into the night as fans protested for an hour after the final whistle.
Blues chief executive David Lampitt said: “The players have rightfully received plaudits over the past weeks for their unpaid efforts.
“But all staff, both full-time and casual, who willingly turned up last night because of a love for the club and a desire to see it survive, also deserve praise.
“In my mind they should be commended as much as the players, for without them there would be no game.
“The directors of the club would like to unreservedly thank them all for being the one certainty in a time of intense uncertainty.”
Well said Mr Lampitt, and quite rightly credit is given where it is due!
This show of loyalty is even more impressive given the harsh reality that some of these that have continued to offer their services in this difficult time quite possibly might find themselves out of a job when the cost cutting measures of administration actually kick in…
If/when this happens you have to feel for them, as you do the unsecured creditors that will again be hit hard by PFC’s latest move into admin.
