Pompey’s player of the month for October

‘Kevin-Prince Boateng, Michael Brown and Aruna Dindane were equal player of the month for October’, not my vote, yours – although these findings from the forum poll to determine who was our stand out man for October are not quite thoughts that I do agree with to be honest…

The ‘official’ player of the month was Boateng, so I think that ‘The Prince’ (22.22%) sharing this on the Vital Pompey one was always ‘likely’ to be something that we saw, and to be fair I would say it was fair as he did have a good month, even if it was not quite as productive as it could have been – that said, as paultsmouth quite rightly pointed out, a broken toe can do this for you!

To say that Brown (22.22%) was a player that ‘divided opinion’ upon his arrival would be an understatement, but is a guy that has won virtually everyone over. I think has been fantastic for us since we signed him – both in tenacious terms of his ability to break-up, or hold up the oppositions play as well as his ability to set attacking moves on their way. He also gives us everything for the team, even if it costs him! He also offers great leadership qualities, and makes an excellent captain.

For me, he was October’s best player and that was the way I voted…

The league goals eventually started to come for Dindane (22.22%) as the month went on, well actually as it ended as he scored his hat-trick against Wigan. I thought he had a good month, putting in plenty of effort and commitment in most games, also getting into good positions – even if he missed them again Spurs – and eventually opening his account. Was he up with the best performers though throughout the month? For me, not quite to be honest.

I think that October mentions also need to go to:

Someone that ‘might well’ have been awarded this was Younes Kaboul (11.11%) as he again put in another really good month – once again showing good leadership qualities on and off the pitch. I would say he has probably been our most consistent performer this season and grows in stature with each month that passes. For me, at the moment, he is a nailed on certainty for player of the season!

His defensive partner Marc Wilson (11.11%) is another that grows in stature with each game. Yep, the guy is inexperienced but he gains more of this with every game he plays, and I feel also improves with each game – granted he might make the odd mistake, but on the whole I would not say he has made any ‘major’ or ‘costly’ ones.

This is a partnership that is also developing nicely. I would not image many premier league clubs have a central defensive pairing formed of a couple of early 20-somethings, with probably around 50 or 60 games between them…

Of course you cannot forget Jamie O’Hara (11.11%) either. The guy never gives up, is always up for it and to be fair also has quality about him – all traits that we need this season. Remember me a lot of Matty Taylor and Gary O’Neil due to the traits that he does have. He is also another that continues to do, and say the right things on and off the pitch.
