Pompey To Host FC Rostov

Portsmouth Football Club will be hosting a friendly against FC Rostov next month.

The game on Wednesday, October 5 has been arranged to raise money for the families of the victims of the recent air crash in Russia, which killed 44 people.

The plane, which crashed immediately after taking off from an airport near Yaroslavl, was carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team.

Almost the entire team, which included several foreign stars, coaching staff and seven of the flight’s air crew were killed in the accident, while Alexander Galimonv – a Russia international who played for Lokomotiv – died later in hospital. Crew member Alexander Sizov remains in critical condition.

Pompey chief executive David Lampitt said: “On behalf of everyone involved with the club, I offer our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who died in these tragic circumstances.

“The accident has been felt deeply by us, as it has everyone in the sporting world, and that is why we have decided to play this match.”

The match will be played at Fratton Park with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Ticket details will be announced shortly.

FC Rostov currently compete in the Russian Premier League, finishing ninth last season.
