Pompey let Smith go

Phil Smith started the week, not only as our no.2 goalie but also the goalkeeper coach.

Come the end of it he is no longer either and has instead moved on…

He has been allowed to move on to join Dartford on loan for a month.

For a while now we have felt that ‘three was a crowd’ as far as goalies went but the one that most thought would move on would have been John Sullivan?

The return to Fratton of goalkeeping coach David Coles this week (and what a move this is!) meant Smith was no longer required for that role and as far as longevity goes Sullivan is the one that would have this to be honest, and also has another year on his contract after this summer.

If Sullivan cannot learn from Coles he never will, and to be fair I do think there is a decent goalie in there somewhere…
