Sunday – as ever, over the weekend – was a busy day for Pompey and the Tabloids.

Harry Redknapp ‘hit out’ in the People over the handling of the Lord Stevens Bung Enquiry with him particularly unhappy at having his image – and other managers – ‘splashed all over the papers’, but not a sighting of Jose Mourinho. This was covered in full by Vital Pompey in this article Redknapp bites back.

I did not personally read this myself but it was claimed the Pompey number two Tony Adams also ‘hit out’ in the Sunday Mirror at the coaching set up in this country, but wants to manage the England one day.

Israeli international striker Roberto Colautti admitted in the News of the World that it would be ‘a dream’ to play in England. The reported Pompey target is currently with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa. This was another story covered in full by Vital Pompey in this article ‘Target’ after dream move to England.

Saturday had seen former Pompey loanee Manuel Fernandes say that his days in the England ‘were over’ with Benfica still insisting on a fee of £12million for the Portuguese international star – reports on Sunday suggest that maybe free spending West Ham will be happy to match this price when Pompey and Everton would not.

Another striker link was ‘firmed up’ with Fredi Kanoute’s agent Christophe Mongai claiming in the News of the World that Newcastle were interested in his client, but so were Pompey. Another subject covered in full on Vital Pompey in this article Agent claims interest in Kanoute.

The thing that really caught my eye though was the People’s claims that Watford’s Hameur Bouazza – along with Alou Diarra – is ‘topping’ Pompey’s ‘shopping list’, with Pompey the favourites to land the 22-year old.

I would admit that I did quite like the look of the fella last season – so Watford will do well to hold on to the talented winger – but talk of a £5million move seems a bit much to me.

Wingers will carve out clear-cut chances for our strikers – but wait a minute we still do not really have any, other than what we had last season anyway!
