Piquionne ‘on the brink’ of signing?

According to The News, who ‘understand’ this to be the case, Frederic Piquionne is set to complete his loan move to Pompey with the move ‘imminent…’

He is described as ‘a pacy, powerful centre-forward’ but has not lived up to expectations at Lyon.

This is what jim4pompey recently said about Piquionne, with a couple of YouTube vids that were also included:

‘From what I can see on the most useful youtube he looks a very promising “big” player – although it’s interesting to see two big guys up front as most of the shots show him running off Jan Koller. See following for his youtube CV.’

‘He certainly has height, though the headed goals don’t see him “getting up” but he definitely lacks the ungainliness of Crouch for a big man. Apparently valued at £2m in the article I read, if he could score goals like this for Pompey.’

The 30-year-old, capped once by France a couple of years ago, is ‘said’ to have a decent strike record but struggled with Lyon last season – managing only 2 goals in 19 games.

We need to increase numbers and a loan move for an experienced player, albeit it inexperienced in England, is not a bad thing, right?

Wilson and Nugent ‘slug it out’

As I am sure we have all seen Dave Nugent and Marc Wilson are said to have been involved in a ‘drunker drawl’ whilst the team were over in Portugal…

The pair are believed to have had an exchange in the early hours after a heavy drinking session following the defeat against Benfica and as such were sent home ahead of their teammates.

It is ‘said’ that 2-weeks wages have been docked and the matter will be dealt with ‘in house’ but I maybe this is not the end of this matter, and the punishments dished out to one, or both, could be more serious than just a fine?
