Peter Storrie had a more than few words to say on talkSPORT tonight in an interview with Mark Saggers and Stan Colleymore.
In truth Peter added very little to what we don’t already know. All agreed that Saturday`s thrashing of Wigan had been a magnificent response after all the problems the club had been through. PS added there was a great atmosphere at the club. The players all were behind the manager and the club were so pleased they had held nerve and stuck with Paul Hart. Peter added that Hart had said that a big win was coming for some time and feel that Pompey are only two or three players from a top eight side.
The subject then turned to the ownership of the club. Sacha lost a lot of money, in the region £30-40m and then SAF took over. Sacha was concerned that no money coming into club and asked Storrie to see if he could find other buyers. He spoke to Pini Zahavi and he introduced him to the Al Faraj brothers. They were not HIS (Storrie’s) consortium he just advised them on the way forward.
He said that he gets on well with SAF and the owners are happy with him as a chairman. New owners are still fire fighting at the present but have plans. To build a new Training ground, redevelop the stadium is the challenge of going forward and the owners are talking in terms of years ahead. He did not expect the new owners to just say what they were going to do as fans want actions not words. The new owners are aware of need to spend in January and are preparing for it. He does not know how much will be spent yet.
Asked how do you know if investors have money he replied to take them on trust as to whether they have money despite fit and proper person test. Other countries have different rule such as France.
Again asked how do you sell the club to prospect investors? PS said I try and sell the City and the supporters. The shirts in the city are all Pompey and the city is capable of holding big sporting events.
Asked about whether he thought about resigning he admitted he had thought long and hard but when the fans sing your name you have to think again.
PS warned that Pompey’s financial situation could hit other clubs very soon and they can not rest on their laurels. The banks can always call in the debt and may want their money quickly.
In reply to a question from a Pompey fan on why do the press always run Pompey down? Neil Ashton of the News of the World replied we don`t run Pompey down!! PS suggested the press should spend more time talking to the fans. He would be meeting the Northern Blues at Blackburn on Saturday – the press should come and listen but it is not newsworthy.
Finally a Liverpool fan sent a message ‘can you take over the Reds? Then at least we can get some sense from owners`.
