Well, The Sun says we are £95m in debt but still Tony Adams has been ‘given permission’ to give Jermaine Pennant £50,000 per week and will sign him for £3m after the winger ‘snubbed’ Milan in favour of a move to Pompey… Although The Mirror also says we will sign him, but for £2m!
We are strapped for cash without a doubt, but £95m in debt – jog on!
Despite the lack of funds issue I could maybe still see a £3m offer being made, but I am not sure that Liverpool would accept this to be honest – that said he would leave for nothing in the summer if he did not sign a new contract, but £50,000 per week! It is wages of that kind that have contributed to us getting into the mess that we are, so I would find it hard to believe that we would allow two top, top earners to go – and others before those two this month actually I guess – only to replace them with another massive earner, who is quite frankly in my thinking not actually that good, without a doubt not a £200,000 per month player!
The ‘claim’ is that he has held talks with us and we hope to get the deal sorted in time for him to make his debut against Spurs in Sunday – whilst the thought of a genuine right winger coming in does appeal and will give us a more natural balance, even if I do not exactly like the fella, I am not convinced by this if truth be known.
The Arsenal connection, and the off the field problems that both he and our manager have had in the past make it almost ‘too easy’ a link for me, but maybe my cynicism that we will sign no one is getting too much and making me over cynical…
The same ‘report’ also says that we are ‘close to agreeing’ a loan deal with Madrid for Argentine striker Javier Saviola until the end of the season – again, I cannot see it but then again who knows in this crazy world of football these days!
