Pompey will cross paths with a familiar face this summer with Oxford added to the pre-season schedule – this will of course mean us coming up against our former manager, and Harry Redknapp’s former assistant Jim Smith, who is now a director with the non-league club.

This game will most probably be the final fixture added to the schedule – this is what the Pompey Site had to say about this, and our other pre-season games…

==========

HARRY & JIM’S REUNION

Pompey will play Oxford United in a friendly on Monday, August 4.

The game sees Harry Redknapp link up with his former assistant boss at Fratton Park, Jim Smith, now a director at Oxford.

Redknapp and Smith masterminded Pompey’s title-winning return to the top flight in 2002/3.
The Blues have also lined up a game against neighbours Havant & Waterlooville at Westleigh Park 24 hours later.

The clash with Conference side Oxford at the Kassam Stadium comes eight days after Pompey play Manchester United in a friendly in Nigeria.

The U’s, who dropped out of the Football League in 2006, finished ninth in the Conference last season.

Havant & Waterlooville, who knocked Notts County and Swansea out of the FA Cup last season before twice leading at Liverpool, finished seventh in Conference South.

The clash with Havant & Waterlooville comes five days before Pompey face Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Pompey’s opening pre-season game is at Exeter on Wednesday, July 16 before friendlies at Swindon and Bournemouth.

The Blues then play two games in Nigeria before returning to face Oxford, the Hawks and Manchester United in the Community Shield – the second clash against the double-winners in a fortnight.

The Premier League season starts on Saturday, August 16.

Pompey’s pre-season fixtures:
Wednesday, July 16: Exeter (A) (kick-off 7.45pm)

Friday, July 18: Swindon (A) (7.45pm)

Tuesday, July 22: Bournemouth (A) (7.45pm)

Friday, July 25: Nigeria or a Nigerian Premier League side (Abuja Stadium, kick-off time to be confirmed)

Sunday, July 27: Manchester United (Abuja Stadium, kick-off time to be confirmed)

Monday, August 4: Oxford (A) (7.45pm)

Tuesday, August 5: Havant & Waterlooville (A) (7.45pm)
