Out of the blue!

It was thought that the ‘fight’ to become the next Pompey manager was a straight fight between Sean O’Driscoll and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With SOD the one that pretty much everyone had accept would ‘get the gig!’

Well, and as the title says, totally out of the blue a new candidate has emerged with Steve Coppell now the favourite to be installed…

Last night Sam Materface, a man with ‘pretty good’ PFC connections, said on TalkSport that he was ‘70% certain’ that Coppell would be appointed after confirming ‘Steve Coppell was at Fratton Park’ for talks yesterday.

Paper ‘reports’ early today say that Coppell was at Selhurst Park overlooking our 0-0 draw with former club, and one he spent three spells with as a manager, Palace.

These Materface comments came off the back of a ‘Tweet’ from a sky sports reporter who said he was ‘hearing some interesting stuff on vacant Pompey job… Developments imminent.’

From this Tweet Vital Pompey Towers soon put out a few feelers to ‘try’ and find out what the score was, and the thoughts were – as you would imagine – that perhaps a move was being made for a director of football, or a late move for someone else.

Well, it would ‘seem’ that this development is a move for Coppell?!

I guess it is possible, if unlikely, that Coppell’s role could be a director of football one perhaps?

With Coppell having a track record of not lasting long in jobs that can be ‘difficult’ and/or ‘stressful’ this move, in many ways, would seem an odd one but one that a large number would be fairly happy with I would think.

At least CSI would save a bit of money in a compensation payoff anyway as chances are he would walk before he was pushed! That is just a joke…

Maybe, just maybe the next 24-hours or so will see the vacancy sign removed with another S.C taking control at Fratton.

I wonder if Coppell is the same size as Cotterill, if so he will quite literally slip seamlessly into his tracksuit!

One thing that I would say is that this is PFC that we are talking about so anything is possible and there is no cast iron assurance that Coppell, or anyone else for that matter, will get the job until The Pompey Site says so…
