O’Neil – it did not seem right

Image for O’Neil – it did not seem right

Yep, I know I have to move on, as we have/are with the departure of Gary O’Neil but it still did not seem right to see him in a Boro shirt – as I did for the first time Saturday when I sat down to watch match of the day.

I could not quite believe the commentator saying that Boro captain George Boateng ‘had been left out to accommodate O’Neil‘, which surely cannot be right – Boro do not, or should not be needing to simply ‘accommodate’ O’Neil in their side should they?

He was still being played on the right of midfield for them though, so that has not changed, nor has his drive and ability to pull out a pin point cross, as he did for the first Boro goal.

A lot has been said about his being allowed to leave, so this will not be brought up again, but getting used to seeing him play for Boro will take exactly that – some getting used to.

The first time is out of the way so it might not seem quite as weird next time, but it will when we play Boro soon and he comes up against us – although I am sure, at least I hope, that he will get a great reception from the Pompey fans.
