Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

4/12/1899: Edward Hough
4/12/1980: Adam Newton
4/12/1987: David Cotterill

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Edward Hough, Adam Newton and David Cotterill – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Hough was well before my time, as he would have been anyone reading this.

Newton I recall coming to Pompey on loan from West Ham, doing so with rave reviews… I do not remember him doing much during his time at Fratton Park though in all honesty.

Another who didn’t do too much for Pompey was Cotterill – he had done pretty well prior to his arrival and the Welsh international hasn’t done bad since he left the Blues but it didn’t quite work for him either on the south coast.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 13
Won – 2
Drawn – 4
Lost – 7

Just the one on this day for me – I went to Germany for the last away game in European competition, possibly, in fact probably ever… It was a long old journey and despite the advice the late – and great – Ken Malley had helped layout in the Euro Chimes magazines we did not take the warning to ‘get to the ground early.’ We eventually got in as we went 2-1 up, it all went wrong after that in a defeat at Wolfsburg, but what a trip and what an experience.

What are your memories of Hough – obviously too early for anyone, Newton and Cotterill from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

PLAY UP POMPEY
