A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

28/7/1993: Paul McCallum

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Paul McCallum – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

I do not think anyone will forget McCallum… problem is this will probably be for the wrong reasons. He had barely involved for Pompey during a loan when the West Ham forward was sent off minutes after coming on in a game at Fratton Park.

A red card happens but it was his reaction when he pushed the ref to get an extended suspension that probably wouldn’t be forgotten.

Went on to have a decent spell at Leyton Orient, no idea if he is still with them though?

What are your memories of McCallum from his Pompey days?
