A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

18/7/1911: John Friar
18/7/1972: Sasa Ilic
18/7/1986: Yassin Moutaouakil

From the Ed

Happy birthday to John Friar, Sasa Ilic and Yassin Moutaouakil – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

It goes without saying Friar was before the time of anyone reading – I cannot say I know anything about his footballing career either.

Both had a Charlton background before spells at Fratton Park and I do recall Ilic and Moutaouakil pretty well.

I would probably think Ilic will go down as the player most thought had the better time at Pompey? Pretty sure he returned for two spells, or was that the other Charlton goalkeeper, Andy Petterson?

What are your memories of Friar – clearly too early, Ilic and/or Moutaouakil from their Pompey days?
