Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

13/8/1909: John McHugh
13/8/1913: Tommy Rowe
13/8/1978: Benjani Mwaruwari
13/8/1983: Lubomir Michalik
13/8/1984: Niko Kranjcar

From the Ed

Happy birthday to John McHugh, Tommy Rowe, Benjani Mwaruwari, Lubomir Michalik and Niko Kranjcar – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Plenty of birthdays and most I know well but McHugh and Rowe are obviously long before my time – as they will be all – and I cannot claim to know anything about them either.

Benjani, well, what can you say? Without a doubt Pompey got the very best out of him with his tireless effort making him worth his weight in gold. In fairness his goals return wasn’t bad either was it all things considered.

I do recall Michalik, one of the few relative bright spots from some awful times when we had him for a short spell at Fratton Park.

Kranjcar remains one of the most talented players I’ve seen and as much as he was good for Pompey I always thought there could, in fact should, have been more from him.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 8
Won – 2
Drawn – 3
Lost – 3

Not too much in the few games played but victories are the least common thing from the eight played.

I recall quite a few games but can only claim the one game, a defeat against Brighton at Fratton in 2011, which I think was the first home game of the 2011-12 campaign?

What are your memories of McHugh, Rowe – both too early for anyone – Benjani, Michalik and/or Kranjcar from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?
