Peter Storrie has spoken to The News to deny the latest rumours that Dave Nugent is on the verge of leaving Pompey – this time being reports that Hull have made an approach for him: ‘that’s a new one to me. I haven’t heard about that.

‘There has not been any contact with us for David. In fact, we have not had any approach for any of our players at this stage.’

The suggestion is that Hull are willing to pay £3m for him but are requesting he takes a pay cut, which The Sun claims would have to be £15,000 from his apparent £35,000 to ‘a mere’ £20,000…

The News also reports that we originally ‘only’ paid Preston £3m for the striker, so we would recoup all of our original outlay.

Whilst the reported £6m fee at the time of his signing last summer was later ‘claimed’ to have actually been more like £4.5m plus various add-ons, meaning at some point it could, if not would have been around that fee, I doubt we would have got him for as little as £3m and would think that letting him go for such an amount would not be in our best interests, nor would it be good business – but then again what do I know…

Next up, and this is where things seem to ‘contradict’ each other, Peter Storrie says that no approaches for any of our players have been made, yet The News are running the story that Franck Songo’o is ‘definitely’ on his way out of Pompey.

We have offered him a new deal but he is yet to sign it, with the reports being he is in talks with a couple of clubs about a move away – should he move on we would be entitled to a small fee owing to the fact that he is under the age of 24 so he would not legally qualify for a bosman free.

I am a fan of the young winger but maybe he is not to the quality that we are now looking for, and with other players being targeted if someone like Shaun Wright-Phillips did arrive he would have even less of a sniff of 1st team football then than he does now – although until any such move happens he will still be a Pompey player so you never know…
