No trialist eh? We now have one

I seem to recall, not too long ago, that Steve Cotterill said that he would not be taking on any ‘trialists’ this summer.

So, it comes as a surprise to me this morning to read in The News that Shavar Thomas is doing just that, having a trial with us…

The 30-year-old Jamaican international captain, who I know nothing about other than the fact The News told us that much – and that he is a defender – will be with the squad for a week and should play in a ‘behind-closed-doors’ friendly.

For me this is an example as to why I think that Cotterill perhaps needs to remain silent at times. Just a week or so ago he ruled out trialists, and was not very complimentary as to what they could offer, but then we take one on.

To be honest I have no problem with trialists, yep they are hit and miss but surely it is down to the manager to decide how ‘hit or miss’ they will be?

Cotterill can now do this with Thomas…
