Aaron Mokoena, well his agent Ivan Modia, continues to talk up the South African and why he wanted to play for Pompey and Paul Hart…
‘Apparently’ all that the 28-year-old now needs is his work permit to be renewed, which I would suggest would not be a problem, and then his 3-year contract will be rubber stamped and he will begin training next week – according to The News anyway!
Still we hear nothing official on this matter though…
I am not doubting the fact that we have now signed him, subject to this work permit, and do not doubt that it was Hart and Peter Storrie doing this deal but I am still optimistic that this was done at the time with it very much looking like he would remain in charge, as it is I am sticking to the opinion that the Hart talk is a smokescreen.
That said, ‘if’ Hart remains our manager, so be it, that will be the case so you have to back him and the side, and I will do that – we all will!
As far as Mokoena himself is concerned, I – and many others – made no secret of the fact that we were unhappy with his signing when it was first announced by the South African captain some 2-months ago, but we must give him a chance too, right?
The thing that annoys me most of is the fact that he is another very defensively minded player with little, or no, offensive thoughts to his game or ability, although to be fair the guy is no mug – just do not expect anything creative from him!
To be fair I am convinced that we would get nothing less than 100% from the guy whenever he played and wherever he played, but I would just hope that his arrival would not be for him to play as part of a midfield with the likes of the players we already have as what this currently contains is frightening! Throw another defensive midfielder, with no creative ability, and we will struggle big time. Used as a central defender, maybe so, as he can play this role…
Whatever though, hopefully this mystery is going to be resolved next week – at least it will be another body, eh!
