Whilst I would ‘hope’ that the vast majority are, and have been, against a ‘wild spending spree’ this summer I am sure that the vast majority are now becoming a little ‘frustrated’ at the familiar feeling of ‘déjà vu’, transfer wise, at Fratton this summer…
Again I cannot stress enough that I have little doubt the club is working hard to bring in players and some good moves have, and will continue still I hope, been made off-the-field since CSI arrived but it is plain to see that we are desperately in need of players!
Well, a thought I have recently had, and just a thought mind – I have nothing to back this up – is ‘perhaps’ some clubs will not deal with PFC in the transfer market at the moment?
In some ways you would have to say ‘can you blame them’…
It is easy to pluck this and that name out of the hat, but actually signing them is another mater – firstly we have the fee, and then agent and signing on fees etc. involved. And then there is the wages, and wages MUST be right for PFC at this stage, a harsh lesson ‘should’ have been gained from our previous!
Although it is that ‘previous’ that is ‘perhaps’ hurting us most of all?
Given the fact that PFC failed to pay-up business, charities and the like, not to mention were long overdue with payments to clubs – some of which were seriously, by all accounts, hurt by these late payments, of course football clubs had the luxury of being ‘secured creditors’ so would get their money eventually, small business etc. were not and got a small proportion of what they should, in many cases not enough to keep them afloat – are they not dealing with us…
I am not suggesting that ‘out of principle’ clubs ‘might’ not deal with us, principle, honour and the like have little place in football these days!
My thoughts are more along the line that some clubs ‘might’ be thinking twice about dealing with us given the fact that we previously took so long to pay-up on transfer fees etc.
So, it is possible that some clubs are thinking twice about transfer dealings with PFC, even if we have ‘turned over a new leaf’…
Perhaps Steve Cotterill’s ‘contacts’ do not stretch far in the game, but as frustrating as it has been at times perhaps ‘cast-offs’ from Stoke, and ‘constant links’ to players at Burnley, for players past and present at both clubs, is happening for a reason?
His previous with these clubs ‘probably’ makes them more willing to deal with him, and be to PFC’s benefit, as a result…
With some clubs looking for a larger, if not the whole, chunk of transfer money up front (as personally I think ALL transfers in football should be conducted) when you are talking a ‘larger sum’ of money maybe it is little wonder deals cannot, or are not, going through as it ‘could’ be a lot to stump up in one go, especially in the current financial climate?
So, if there is any chance that some of my thoughts are true then it would beg the question why did Cotterill not go after more free agents when he had the chance…
Then again with the CSI takeover not complete as quickly as anticipated – surprise, surprise – did that have an impact on things?
I may be totally wrong, but these were just some thoughts that came into my head so I thought I would share some musings with you…
