Milan Mandaric has told BBC Radio that Portsmouth have started talks with Neil Warnock’s advisors.

The Sheffield United boss was made the bookies favourite to take over the Pompey hotseat as soon as Alain Perrin was relieved of the post.

Mandaric has now added substance to the rumours by admitting ‘We are in the process of talking to Warnock’s financial advisory people. We’re still expecting a response from Sheffield United to give us a green light to talk directly to Warnock.’

The Blades assistant manager Stuart McCall thinks all will become clear this week ‘We’ll know come Wednesday or Thursday the outcome of everything, so we’ll wait and see. Personally I’m experienced enough to get on with it and we’ll be preparing as usual for Saturday’s derby against Sheffield Wednesday.’

Warnock was quoted as saying ‘I’ll be managing against Sheffield Wednesday so you can presume what you like.’

Reports in the Mirror this morning claimed Warnock was in talks with Portsmouth and The Independent reported that Mandaric wants to employ a Director Of Football as well. Sir Bobby Robson alongside Terry Butcher or David Pleat alongside Martin Allen were supposedly the names in the frame.

Warnock is currently third in this sites poll asking who the fans want to see as manager. Milan Mandaric himself is favourite with over 50% of the votes! At least he wouldn’t sack himself as boss I guess. But of the serious contenders, Roy Keane is just 2% ahead of Warnock
