The search for Guy Whittingham’s new coach ended on Monday when his former teammate Alan McLoughlin was promoted in-house.

After being laid low with illness for a while instead of carrying on his duties with the academy Macca has been promoted to a role of 1st team coach.

He said: ‘I have to thank Guy for giving me this opportunity.

‘It’s been a tough year for me and my family, but this is a proud day for me.’

Moving on from the academy was tough, but he could not turn down the chance of working with the 1st team: ‘it was difficult to leave the academy after a wonderful two years with some fantastic staff who have helped me along the way.

‘I owe a lot of thanks to Andy Awford, who brought me back into the club and has shown me a lot of support.

‘It took a lot of thought, but you only live once and I couldn’t turn down the chance to work with the first team.’

I have been a self-confessed Macca fan for sometime so you will not see me disappointed that he has moved up to be involved with the 1st team, as I am sure that this will be a good thing for him and us.

Of course the academy will miss out on his input though…

Macca might be looking forward to a new, and bright, future with Pompey but one of the many trialists that we were looking at will definitely not be.

Michael Bryan was set to feature against Havant tonight but the winger has moved on early.

Plenty of other trialist, along with the new signings, will play though as will Shaun Cooper who returned to training with us last week.
