Like buses?

As the dust settles on the latest takeover at Pompey many thoughts have turned to the signings that we need to bolster the squad our threadbare squad.

In fact these thoughts have been on peoples minds for as long as I can remember…

With players, apparently, ‘waiting in the wings’ many would have expected, if not wanted, these signed, sealed and delivered already, certainly ASAP.

The longer it goes without this being the case people ‘might’ soon start to worry that this will not happen?

Although clearly arrivals must happen!

What I am going to say now is of course nothing more than speculation as I, or no one else for that matter, has any proof of this but it was suggested, during what seemed a lively ‘Chew the fat with Chix’ session on Thursday night, that the announcement of signings is being strategically delayed…

CSI are still to hold a press conference to announce their takeover at PFC so the ‘thought’ is that perhaps this will take place next week, and as a means of ‘stamping their authority’ or ‘making an impression’ that this could be used to announce a few signings at the same time?

So tying up a number of signings is being done now to do them in one lump sum to bring forward a bit of a ‘wow’ factor.

This theory does seem to make sense when you think about it and would certainly make an impression…

David Norris seems ‘nailed on’, so this is one that can almost be put down as a ‘given’ but name after name is being ‘linked’ also.

Gary, or was it Steven, Caldwell, Jason Roberts, Nathan Tyson, Wade Elliot, Brian Howard and Diomansy Kamara, among others, have all been ‘strongly linked’ in the past few days, most would be welcomed I am sure and, all in all, this calibre of player would please the natives, right?

One of these signing may no longer be Greg Halford though?

The Wolves man had been very vocal about his desire to return to Fratton although he has now told sky sports than he is looking to stay in the premier league and looking for a chance to prove himself with Wolves. That said he also said that he is ‘expecting a call’ from PFC about his availability.

Is he looking to speed along a possible return to Fratton permanently or making those aware, that are in the premier league and ‘said’ to be interested, that signing for them interests him?

Today, according to a comment that I saw made by someone on this site, sky sports ‘understand’ that Pascal Chimbonda could be on his way to Fratton?

Again, whilst this, in a way, would be another quality addition in many ways the guy is a real football mercenary and trouble seems to follow him so I am not so sure that his presence in the dressing room would be a good one…

Thanks but no thanks is what I would say to him to be honest.

Without wanting to ‘speculate’ too much could the signings we are about to make, surely, be like buses?

You wait for ages for one and then a host come along at the same time…

I do think that it would be good if we could start boosting the numbers sooner, rather than later, so if the next week could see this start happening, so long as these are ‘sensible’ and ‘realistic’ signings, on sensible and realistic wages and contracts, it will get the CSI era off to a good start.
