Although it is highly likely that one Johnson, Glen Johnson, is going to be leaving Pompey this summer another Johnson, Roger Johnson, is apparently swapping the championship for the premier league this summer?
The 26-year-old Cardiff defender, who made it into the championship team of the season, is being billed as ‘the perfect replacement’ for Sol Campbell ‘who is off on a free transfer at the end of the season’…
Oh, and another player joining him, also from the championship – not that I am slagging off the championship, but if these ‘reports’ are true and these are the level of players that we are preparing to bring in this summer then it is certainly going to be a long season next time round, more so than it has been anyway – is Forest’s 23-year-old midfielder James Perch.
Then again these ‘reports’ are from the same paper, The News of the World, which also claims ‘Pompey yobs’ were able to somehow gain access to Theo Walcott’s water bottle during the recent game with Arsenal!
The ‘claims’ are that after the former Saints player had tossed aside his bottle during the warm up a Pompey fan was able to gain access to it, undo the lid and ‘gob’ into it – and only the fact that his old man was able to get word to someone did he not drink from it, with it feared he could ‘contract swine flu’…
Good god, whilst he did get the usual ‘scummer’ abuse, I could never hear or see anything more and quite how this paper expects us to believe the fact that a fan was:
a) Able to make his, or her, way onto the pitch side.
b) Undo the lid.
c) Spit in it.
d) Place it back without being ‘caught’ is unbelievable.
And the further claims that ‘a Pompey source’ has confirmed this did happen but nothing will happen until ‘an official complaint is made’ even more so!
So, I think we have surely been convinced more than ever that we must take just about all that The News of the World says with a large amount, let alone pinch, of salt…
