Harry Redknapp has made an excellent start to an important weekend with an extension to David James’ contract. James, who should be representing England in goal if it was not for the stupidity and stubbornness of Steve McClaren, signed a new contract on Friday evening that will keep him at Portsmouth until 2009.

On Sunday, he will be keeping goal for Pompey as they attempt to beat Arsenal for the first time in the Premiership and will be hoping that Reading and Bolton drop points – if that proves to be the case, Pompey will finish the season in 7th place and in the UEFA cup for the first time in their history.
