James, Johnson and Defoe feature for England

Who would have thought we would see the day when not one, not two but three Pompey players all represented England on the same night?

Well that night was tonight as David James, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe all pulled on the three lions shirts in the 2-0 win over America.

And what is more at one point all of them were on the pitch at the same time!

James and Defoe started the game – James had little to do, but what he did he did well whereas Defoe really should have scored at least once I reckon, but he was probably trying to hard having been given the chance he has been craving, although I thought his movement was top class throughout. He also played his part in the 2nd England goal before being replaced by a man who may very well soon become his Pompey strike partner Peter Crouch

Johnson came on as a 2nd half sub and did ok, making a few runs forward and getting in a few timely tackles.

I would expect the entire Pompey contingent to make the cut going to Trinidad so I suspect there is a good chance that we will see most, if not all play a part again at the weekend – what price all 3 starting the game?

I think we have tonight witnessed a piece of history by seeing 3 Pompey players on the pitch at the same time for England?

I cannot say for sure that this is the case but I reckon there is a good chance it has not been done before – although I have little or no doubt eastneydave can and will confirm this…
