James extends his Fratton stay

David James yesterday signed a contract extension that will keep him with us until the summer of 2010 – at least?

With his form being as good as ever, arguably the best it ever has been this new contract will take him up to and including the 2010 world cup finals, where he is hoping to be England’s no.1.

There is the option to take up a further year extension when that contract ends, so I would not be surprised to see James turning out for us in the 2010/11 season also!

Either way tying him down to a new longer term contract is a major boost for us, and we now know that we have the countries best keeper to rely on for several more years yet and the benefits this can have on others at the club can only be a good thing, although I would think that Jamie Ashdown possibly will not be here much longer?

I have to be honest I was not that sure when he signed, I knew he was a better keeper than he was given credit for, but never expected him to be as good as he has been. Would I swap him for anyone else now? Honestly, no.
