Is Honesty The Best Policy

Just get behind the team, etc. etc. All fair enough, and for 90 minutes I do.

Don’t see why we have to come on here & pretend to think something we don’t though? What is the point of that? If there is any value in fan forums it has to be that we can express our views & not just toe the party line?

We can all say “I am 100% behind Guy”, but why do that on a forum if you don’t believe it? Does that make you a better fan? Not in my opinion. And frankly, I’m past worrying about whether I’m considered a good fan or not. I go to football to enjoy watching people who are (sometimes) better at playing football than I am. I don’t go to be ranked against other fans for how dedicated I am to the club & the staff who’ll all be gone in 5 years anyway. No value to me personally.

I think Guy is lacking in experience & isn’t a good manager. He was a good choice when nobody else wanted the job, but we’re not in that position any longer. We are building the club up for the future, surely not just hanging onto the past?

Am I booing the team? No. That is counter productive. But equally I’m not pretending that Guy is a good manager, as I think he is costing us points with his lack of experience.

Will he win games? Sure. But then so he should. I think that his side is good enough to win a few more than it currently is. That isn’t that I think “we are Pompey & we have a right to beat these teams”, it is that I haven’t yet seen anyone we’ve played who has convinced me they are a decent side.

And yes, we have short memories, but at what point does it become acceptable to say “that wasn’t a good performance & we should have better” without having someone say “at least we have a club”? Is it 10 years? 5 years? 2 years? 1 year? What is the cut-off when we actually deal with the today rather than the yesterday? Genuine question.
