Harry Redknapp has spoken to The News to put in perspective just what an incredible achievement Pompey have managed over the past 3 months spanning 10 games: ‘that’s now 10 games without defeat which really is incredible.
‘As a manager I’ve had bits and pieces of good unbeaten runs in the past, but not in the Premier League.
‘You just don’t do that at this level unless you are one of the big four.
‘They’re at it all the time but it’s unheard of a club like us getting this far.
‘This is a hard, hard league, no doubt about it. That’s why a run like this doesn’t happen often.
He went on to talk about the league being so evenly matched and how teams can go and surprise others, like Birmingham beating Spurs at White Hart lane, so taking that into account makes it more of an achievement, but he wants the run to keep going: ‘it’s a terrific record and hopefully we can continue it against Villa tomorrow.
‘They are a top, top side, though, and we’ll need to be at the level we’ve been in recent away games to keep it going’.
10 games unbeaten might not sound a lot, but when you pause for a moment, step back and think about it, 10 games unbeaten is more than a quarter of a season, which, with the league as closely fought as it is this season this is a phenomenal run…
I am not going to add anything more to this, as I do not want to tempt fate at all by saying anything stupid – I have learnt my lesson by what I had said before the league cup game with Blackburn – I will just be hoping that we can keep this incredible run going.
I will be watching sat among the Villa fans at Villa Park tomorrow, which will be ‘difficult’ to say the least but I cannot wait for what promises to be a cracking game between two evenly matched sides, and also a match that I think could play a huge part in which of these sides ‘might’ finish higher this season.
