Hogging midfield?

Player recruitment at Pompey remains ‘on hold’ as we await the outcome of the latest long-winded and long drawn out takeover attempt at Fratton.

We can ‘speculate’ all day long as to why we think this is being held up and/or when this will be resolved, one way or the other, but what good will that do…

One of the players that Steve Cotterill wants to bring back to Fratton is Boss Hogg, one of the trio of former loanees he wants back with The Blues.

Repeatedly I have said that I have no objections to Boss Hogg returning, and thought that he did a ‘decent’ job during his loan spell, although have also said several times that I would in all honesty have others as a higher priority and ‘if’ we did pull off other signings then I would somewhat ‘question’ his signing?

I guess a lot depends on the signing of David ‘Chuck’ Norris or not?

Whilst you need a squad of players would Hoggy give up a potential ‘squad place’ with a premier league side to be a squad player with a championship one?

‘If’ we pulled off the signing of Chuck I cannot say that I would see a place in the starting 11 for Hoggy, well not regularly anyway as a 4-man midfield or the 5-man midfield I suspect Cotterill will more likely go with, would include Hayden Mullins and Chuck for starters that leaves Joel Ward and Hoggy battling for that final central birth and given the qualities that both players have, balanced against what the other two (Mullins and Chuck) offer then I have to say, and perhaps I am biased due to my fondness of Wardy, he would be the winner.

As said you need a squad of players but with arrivals, no matter what happens, likely to be fairly limited putting all the eggs in one basket and ‘hogging midfield’ could perhaps be a mistake?

Its that uncertainty about so many things and uncertainty about Chuck arriving that leaves so many things up in the air, although the good thing is is the fact that Hoggy is at least open to a return to Pompey so that is a good thing in itself…
