Hermann – another proving himself

Many of us questioned the signing of Glen Johnson and Papa Bouba Diop, but both have very much proved their worth so far.

Although the signing of Hermann Hreidarsson might not have been overly criticised the fella probably did not get the credit he looks like he deserved – maybe his ‘snub’ a few years back or his record of relegations that challenges ‘the relegator’ Nigel Quashie was held against him?

To be honest his early performances ‘were not very good’ to be polite were they! He looked out of his depth and no better than Dejan Stefanovic would have been and I was all for his coming back, or for Djimi Traore stepping in.

But much as Johnson and Bouba Diop have Hreidarsson gets two thumbs up from me – he has overcome the early difficulties to become a permanent and worthwhile member of what is now – again – an almost watertight back four, what is more he deserves to be a permanent fixture.

Not only can he defend but he also gives us another attacking option from left back and has already chipped in with 2 goals – both as the result of open play starting when defence was turned into attack.

Yep, I like the fella and feel he deserves a mention and some credit, when initially he maybe was given a bit of a tough time.
