Has Kanu’s Bluff Been Called?

Pompey forward Kanu has been holding out for a two year deal – but instead has only been offered a year. He has until the 30th June to agree or he will only be offered rolling weekly contracts.

As yet, nobody has made any offer to take him under their wing – something similar to what he was facing this time last year at West Bromwich Albion until Harry Redknapp rescued him from obscurity. Kanu has been holding out, hoping for that elusive two-year deal, but the Club have made their offer and are standing firmly by it. It appears therefore that Kanu has played a game of call my bluff and may well now be looking at defeat; claims that Ajax were keen to take him back to Holland have evaporated. Unless he signs the one year deal by this Saturday when his current ocntract expires, he will lose that option too.

He can however take some comfort in the fact that Redknapp has still not been able to find a successful goalscorer, in fact it is more than one that is needed, so perhaps there may well still be time for Kanu to come to an arrangment that suits both parties. Redknapp’s search has brought links from the media with names such as Defoe, Nugent, Pazzini, Yakubu, Kanoute, Fabiano, Colautti and even Harwood but none as yet have even been confirmed by the Club.
