Grant reflects on Hull win

Image for Grant reflects on Hull win

All the talk prior to the Hull game was of a ‘weakened side’ being fielded by Avram Grant yet this was not something that happened, nor was it something that he said was realistically going to happen: ‘what is a weak team?

‘We had six players out through injury. As long as I’m here we will come to every game with a high spirit. You don’t have to give up.

‘Football is more than football. It’s very easy to break people and a team in difficult moments. You can only do what we did with the right spirit.’

He says that the meeting that was held with the players this week was about a ‘professional approach’ for the rest of the season and a need to do what was required ‘on the pitch’.

You can argue, overall, that we have almost been forced to field relatively weakened sides all season though, right?

All in all though, following the 3-2 win – yep, a rarity I know but we did win and scored twice in a minute going from 2-1 down to 3-2 up in the final minutes – Grant felt that we did the premier league ‘proud’: ‘the Premier League can be proud that this game is an ambassador for them, not the people in the office making the decisions against football.

‘I think we are doing a great favour to the Premier League and to football. If we play with our heads down, the fans would not come and that would be bad for the league.

‘We are trying to do our best for Portsmouth after the wrong decision was made against us. It was a decision to play until the end.’

It makes a change doesn’t it, down and out – although in many ways I felt little at that point anyway – we turn it around and now the sun is shining this Sunday morning. Yep, it has been a good weekend!

Now, if only we could beat Chelski on Wednesday…
