Pompey’s season ended in typical fashion on Sunday. As soon as the goal went in, which was a corker to be fair, the first thing that any of us said as we turned to one another was ‘was that not typical of our season!’
That about summed it up really…
Pompey did have the ball in the net for what looked, from where I stood – almost directly in line with the play, a totally legal goal from Anthony Vanden Borre. This was bizarrely disallowed for offside, something that Uncle Avram, as he told sky sports, could not understand, yet he too felt it summed up the season: ‘we scored a goal, it was disallowed, two players were on the line. But, as I say, we are used to it this season.’
He, quite rightly so and as already mentioned myself above, paid compliment to the Everton goal as well as our own performance: ‘it was good to finish with a good game, not good that they scored in the last minute, by the way a fantastic goal, but it was a good performance of course.
‘We defended well and made some good attacking, the goal that we scored was a good goal but also Everton are a good team, they know how to pass the ball, they started the game very well but I thought in the second-half we could score.’
The ‘speculation’ continues to grow that Everton was his final league game in charge of Pompey, with the cup final at the weekend being his final game full stop, yet this is something he has denied saying that nothing has, or can, be decided yet: ‘I think I am not the issue because first we need to see what happens with the club, I can not take any decision, even the club can not take any decision – even if they want me to stay – when they do not know what is the future of the club.’
I think that is fair enough to say, right?

Lets face it this weekend was NOT about winning or losing, it WAS about enjoying the ride and enjoying the weekend, making the most of the occasion – I think it was fair to say that the 1,800, or so of us that went as has been reported, did exactly that! It was a fantastic atmosphere.
It would have been nice not to go out, from the premier league years anyway, with a defeat but in a perverse kind of a way maybe it was best we did!
That is that then, for some strange reason I have this feeling that there is another big game coming up this weekend, a game that Pompey will be involved in against Chelski? Yet everyman and his dog expects a defeat at they spanked someone 8-0 on Sunday – live the dream guys, although WHATEVER happens lets savour that moment and PROVE that, even if we should lose, Pompey fans are NOT about ‘skulking off’ early even in defeat. I feel sure that many of us will stay behind and sing our hearts out even if we are beaten, showing appreciation to the manager, coaches, players and the hard working, honest and genuine, staff that this club has and of course Chelski.
Oh, and finally, with all due respect to Everton, as I had not been to Goodison before Sunday I had not experienced it, I have a few words on their ground. I am not one of those that is all for those ‘lifeless’ and ‘soulless’ bowls that we all too often see these days but if anyone dares to slag off Fratton Park I would refer them to such grounds, granted bigger than ours, as this one…That is not to say I did not like it, as I did!
