Avram Grant has been pretty vocal recently about the fact that HE wants players, including David James, to stay and HE will make the decisions about who does stay and go…

Oh, if only it was that simple Avram!

Anyway, according to The Mail, even though there are no direct quotes from anyone, not even a ‘so called source’, they report that ‘Grant has told James that, as well as wanting him to stay, he makes the football decisions at Portsmouth and will pick him as his first-choice goalkeeper, starting with this weekend’s FA Cup clash at home to Sunderland.’

Portsmouth boss Avram Grant: I’ll save David James’ World Cup hopes – here.

It will be interesting to see if James is still here this weekend, let alone playing against Sunderland?

Some ‘reports’ have said that if James plays 1 more game he will trigger a clause in his contract that will earn him a new 1-year contract, The Mail ‘claims’ that he can play 9 more games before this comes into play?

I do not know, it ‘seems’ pretty obvious that we cannot afford to keep him, and most definitely could not afford to keep him next season – at this rate – even less so ‘should’ relegation be confirmed!

So, all that is left to say is ‘time will tell’ I guess…
