In this series we look at those players that have (for whatever reason) left the corridors of Fratton and gone on to pastures new .. either up or down the league ladder or onto foreign shores.

This week we look at Simon Eastwood … A 23 year old goalkeeper plucked from non-league football by Michael Appleton.

Although he had a really unfortunate start to his career at Pompey (Playing his first four games in different competitions … and losing them all) he managed to establish himself as Pompey’s No.1 with some fine displays in the second half of the season.

If was assumed by club and supporters alike that Eastwood would grab the opportunity of a full time contract with the blues and really establish himself as Pompey’s first choice keeper for years to come, in fact he almost said enough to Guy and the team before being offered a new contract.

It was Blackburn however who secured his signature as he signed to become a third choice keeper at a club ‘closer to home’ than Pompey.

To date Eastwood has played one game for Rovers; a League Club game against Carlisle in which he conceded three and also conceded four in a shoot out as Blackburn went crashing out on penalties.
So from Simon Eastwood point of view would he have furthered his career by playing League Two football on a regular basis rather than warming Blackburn’s bench.. And was leaving Pompey ‘A good move or bad move ?’

The decision is yours …
