Another of Pompey’s no power championship opponents will be Coventry, so they are next to come under the microscope as PFC-Jono has a look at them – we revisit this ahead of the meeting today…

With Coventry City now entering their 10th successive year playing Championship, you may consider this Coventry side quite consistent when it comes to what they achieve in the Championship. But they are looking to change things and move forward with the appointment of Aidy Boothroyd. Their last trophy they have won was in the 1966/67 season which they won Division 2 (now the Championship), they hope to repeat this or get anywhere close to repeat this season.

Head-to-head: Pompey and Coventry have only met 6 times in the current century but as we know last years meeting between the two clubs was not lacking any excitement, in a F.A Cup 3rd round replay at the Ricoh, with a last minute own goal from Wright to put the tie to extra time, the drama continued into extra time with Aaron Mokoena separating the sides with a last minute header. These goals proved essential in our route to the F.A Cup Final.

League Standings in Last 5 Years:
2009/10 – 19th
2008/09 – 17th
2007/08 – 21st
2006/07 – 17th
2005/06 – 8th

Fixture Dates:
Saturday, 7 August 2010 – Coventry v Portsmouth, 15:00
Tuesday, 12 April 2011 – Portsmouth v Coventry, 19:45

The man in charge: Aidy Boothroyd, a very good young manager who I believe could go onto greater things in his career and bring a club of Coventry’s stature to greater things. With Watford he had quite an impeccable record bring Watford back to their glory days having made an appearance in a F.A Cup Semi-Final and guiding them to promotion to the Premiership.

Key Player: Kieran Westwood – The young Republic of Ireland Keeper has impressed many fans, players, managers and clubs alike with interest from Premiership clubs heating up for him. He’s proved essential for Coventry and has won many awards and honours for Coventry this season such as Supporters Clubs awards, clubs player of the season and players’ player of the season.

Stadium: Coventry has recently, in 2005, moved into their new home The Ricoh Arena after 106 years at Highfield Road. The Ricoh Arena holds a capacity 32,609 which the club have yet to fill the highest attendance being against Chelsea with 31,407 being in attendance that day. This new stunning stadium cost a total of £113 million.
