Fine and dandy for ‘Super Dave’

There had been a few ‘murmurs’ since the weekend that Dave Nugent might have picked up a serious knee injury that ‘could’ see him limited in appearances for the remainder of the season?

These fears, as he told The News, have been ‘allayed’ by ‘Super Dave’ and he said he will be fit to face Reading on Saturday week: ‘the knee’s fine. It was a bit of a dead leg above the knee.

‘It happened early doors in the second half and the pain wasn’t going away.

‘Every time I planted my left foot the pain was still there and not going so I wasn’t able to carry on.

‘But it’s okay and I will be fine after a break.’

To be honest reading about the injury being played down today is the first I had heard of any real injury and it ‘seems’ that we have little to worry about anyway?

Think what you will about Nugent I think few could say, hand on heart, that we would be able to say he would not be missed if injury forced him onto the sidelines so luckily he will be ok after the international break.

Speaking of this break it comes at a good time for us as the walking wounded can lay low for a couple of weeks and recuperate ready for one last push before the season ends.

Like I say I think we would miss Nugent if injury forced him out although this is something we will have to get used to as I still cannot see that we will see him at Fratton, at least in a Pompey shirt, next season.

Then again ‘if’ the unlikely becomes likely and we make the play-offs and go up maybe we will, in fact I would say we ‘probably’ would see him stay – but hey, lets take it a step at a time…
