Pompey on their first appearance in the FA Cup first round for thirty years have been given a tough assignment when they drew Notts Co at home.

County are on a great run away from home of fourteen unbeaten and will provide a real hurdle to Pompey`s new found confidence. Both sides are of course former winners of the famous trophy.

It will be the third time the sides have met in the FA Cup – the first in 1952 saw Pompey win a Fourth round tie 3-1 at Meadow Lane with goals from Albert Mundy, Marcel Gaillard and Dougie Reid the crowd was an amazing 46,500. The other meeting was also in the Midlands with County coming out on top this time in a third round tie in 1975 by 3-1 with Peter Marinello netting a late consolation.

The tie is due to be played on 3 November at 3pm but depending on the schedulers of ITV/ESPN I have a feeling this game may be televised. It is certainly the most attractive looking tie if you ignore possible giant killing opportunities – and there are plenty of those.

England call up

Young defender Adam Webster has been called up to the England U18 to meet Italy on Wednesday. It is fourth time lucky for Adam who has had to be pulled out of previous squad by Pompey.
