Danny Rose’s newly signed deal was finalised this week, which was positive news for all connected to Pompey – not that it was a surprise this happened.

It had long been anticipated Rose would put pen to paper on this new contract and now it’s done and dusted so we know he’ll be remaining at Fratton Park until the end of the 2018-19 season at least.

Joe Gallen told portsmouthfc.co.uk: ‘It’s great news for us and Danny that he’s going to be here for next season. We’ve missed him in the team since he broke his leg and we’re pleased that he’s on the road to recovery. He’s working hard in the gym and will hopefully be out running pretty soon and available for pre-season.’

There’s no doubting this is ‘great news’ and it goes without saying ‘we’ve missed him’ since he’s been sidelined. It was no coincidence we had a superb run of form when Rose came back into the side, as has been the poor form, in general, since he’s been sidelined – he shouldn’t have been left out of the team at the start of the season as it was.

Rose, 30, still has plenty to offer and if he can come back into the side and make the impact he did during his spell back in Kenny Jackett’s side – in fairness last season to our League 2 winning campaign too – then another extended deal could, if not should, be on the cards.
