Expect more Pompey transfer activity

As the summer transfer window enters it final week, if we were not already prepared for further wheeling and dealing from Harry Redknapp then with what he said in a press conference shown on pfcTV after the Chelsea game, then we better brace ourselves.

Most have been saying that they could see 2 or 3 coming in – and Redknapp appears to want at least a couple, as when asked if we would be signing anyone he answered ‘I don’t know, we’re trying to get one or two in, yes.

‘If we can get one or two in that will make us better then we will do it.

‘We’ve got a couple of players that we would like to bring to the club. If we can do that it would be good for us’.

However the books need to be balanced, so with arrivals you can never count out departures, so again on the pfcTV video when questioned about players leaving he responded ‘I don’t know, you never know do you.

‘If someone makes an offer that’s a good offer, you sell people and then you bring in somebody that you think is better’.

If I could close the transfer window now then personally I would be happy with our lot as it is to be honest but you can never have too many good footballers can you, so as long as these players coming in are improvements on what we already have – which you would expect they will be – then we have to do this.

As far as players going goes, speaking to a friend over the weekend he said that players like Dejan Stefanovic, Noe Pamarot, Richard Duffy and Franck Songo’o would be the players that he would be looking to shift now if we had to.

My own personal thinking is I am not too bothered about Duffy, but as much as I would like Pamarot and Songo’o to stay – as I think that both still have something to offer this club in the coming years – and would also not mind Stefanovic staying, if losing them means we keep people like Matty Taylor and Gary O’Neil in particular then I would accept this.

I still have slight doubts over Taylor but he is not playing like, talking like or acting like a fella that wants to go is he? So I am becoming more hopefully that he will stay.

Another factor that could work in our favour is Gareth Bale looked pretty classy against United for Spurs on Sunday playing on the left of midfield, so I am not sure they even need Taylor now?

Whatever happens though I think we will be in for an interesting last few days of the summer transfer window.
